    Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

    Job Summary:

    The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent position is responsible for assisting the superintendent in activities related to the care and maintenance of the golf course.  Under the Superintendent’s supervision, the Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance staff and training of golf course maintenance personnel.  The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent’s capacity during his absence.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Assists the Superintendent with the supervision of activities and personnel of the maintenance staff.
    • Performs duties involving instructing, assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; acting on employee problems; processing Worker's Compensation information; recommending new hires, transfers, promotions, demotions and terminations; issuing corrective actions and completing employee performance appraisals.
    • Maintains the golf course and ensures proper playing conditions.
    • Assists with developing and maintaining drainage, irrigation, pumping and water systems.
    • Supervises and assists with all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs and trees on the golf course and grounds.
    • Assists with the maintenance and cleanliness of equipment repair areas, equipment storage areas, chemical and fertilizer storage areas.
    • Manages compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA, EPA, and TN State Regulations, relating to chemical and fertilizer storage and disposal, employee safety and public safety.
    • Trains and educates the staff on golf course maintenance practices while checking the quality of the work behind them.
    • Maintains accurate records pertaining to golf course activities, course maintenance, equipment repair, fertilizer and chemical applications and pest control practices.
    • Communicates with pro shop staff, receives bids, and researches new cultural techniques in golf course maintenance.
    • Serves as back up to the Superintendent.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    • High School Diploma or GED, Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • Minimum 2 year’s experience as a 2nd Assistant or Assistant in Training
    • TN State Driver’s License
    • TN State Pesticides Certification, Licensee preferred
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer operation
    • Must be able to efficiently execute multiple tasks at once, in a fast paced work environment
    • GCSAA Member preferred

    Compensation and Benefits:

    • Base Salary $30’000/year.  Negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications.

    Westhaven Golf Club is an 18 hole private golf club located in Franklin, TN just south of Nashville. We are looking for a hard working, self-motivated individual to join our team as an assistant-in-training. The golf club opened for play in 2010 is part of the fast growing Westhaven community! We have bentgrass greens, Zorro zoysia collars and fairways, and Bermuda tees and fairways. The assistant in training will be involved with all aspects of course maintenance. 

    Educational Requirements
    2 or 4 year degree in Turfgrass management or related field preferred

    Experience Requirements
    1 to 3 years golf course experience but willing to work with the right individual

    Special Requirements
    This position will be required to work every other weekend. During the summer months weekend duties will include hand watering greens in the afternoon. Must be able to pass a drug test.

    Job Summary:

Assistant must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a TN Pesticide Applicator license.

    • Oversee and run the daily operation of assigned golf course and manage the associates to achieve goals set by the General Manager and the course standards documentations.
    • Works with the General Manager to ensure that annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed.
    • Supervises and assists maintenance staff in daily duties.
    • Assists in the planning, organizing and direction of the maintenance and sometimes construction of related golf course features.

    Seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as an assistant superintendent. WindRiver is located just south of Knoxville, TN on lake Tellico. Expectations for this position are high. You will be required to perform all duties on the course to include crew management, spraying, fertilizer apps, and irrigation. You will report directly to the superintendent, and must have an eye for detail while understanding the demands of this business. In 2020 we will be undergoing a complete greens renovation to Prism Zoysia.

    The course is a Bob Cupp design consisting of 18 holes with 419 tees fairways and rough with bentgrass greens.

    Educational Requirements
    Minimum associates degree in a turf related field.
